Molly’s Rooftop Smile
Molly walks the cobblestones with flowers in her hands,
First bloom of the springtime across the Dublin strand.
She hums a little melody the sparrows seem to know,
Dreamin’ of her Pat O’Rilley where the summer breezes blow.
Her cheeks are bright as sunrise and her voice is soft and sweet,
She greets the morning people on the Liffey’s gentle street.
But her heart keeps on skippin’ like a fiddle on a reel,
Waitin’ for the break-time bell and the warmth she’s sure to feel.
Oh Molly, Molly, with your flowers all in bloom,
You dance a Dublin bachata ‘cross the city’s afternoon.
And Pat, sweet Pat, with the sunlight in your eyes,
You climb up to the rooftops where your whispered laughter flies.
Two hearts light and smilin’ in the warm blue skies.
Pat is at the docks below, the hammer in his hand,
Buildin’ ships for distant roads to places far from land.
But every day at midday he wipes the sweat away,
Sayin’, “Where’s me lovely Molly? Sure she brightens up me day.”
Lunch laid out in papers, the warm wind in her hair,
He holds her hand in laughter, no troubles linger there.
The city hums below them, but love hums even higher—
Two souls in the sunshine with a summertime desire.
Oh Molly, Molly, may your flowers never fade,
With Pat beside you dancin’ to the tune your hearts have made.
And Pat, sweet Pat, you’re her joy the whole day through,
On the Dublin rooftops dreamin’ in the sky’s soft blue.
Molly loves you—sure she always knew.
Bachata on the Square
Sun on the rooftops, shoes on the run,
Laughin’ through Dublin like the day’s just begun.
Skipping the corners, breathless and free,
Chasin’ the sound of who we might be.
Then from the square came a shimmer of sound,
Guitars talkin’ sweet, hips movin’ round.
Words we don’t know but they feel just right,
Spanish spillin’ into the light.
“What kind of music makes the street behave?”
We asked with smiles and courage brave.
She laughed and said, “Come closer, see—
This is bachata, dance with me!”
Step to the left, step close and slow,
Turn your heart and let your body go!
Bachata beats on Dublin stone,
Now this square don’t feel like home alone!
Spin and laugh, don’t overthink—
Feel the rhythm before you blink!
She showed us steps with a flick and sway,
Countin’ the rhythm in a gentle way.
Feet were clumsy, timing late,
But joy don’t care if you’re first-rate.
One by one they gathered ‘round,
Drawn by the smiles, drawn by the sound.
Old lads, kids, a couple or two,
Movin’ like they always knew.
Step to the left, step close and slow,
Turn your heart and let your body go!
Bachata beats on Dublin stone,
Now this square don’t feel like home alone!
Spin and laugh, don’t overthink—
Feel the rhythm before you blink!
“Like this?” — Sí, así!
“Too fast?” — Déjate ir!
Hands up high, feel that cheer—
Bachata found a home right here!
Step to the left, step close and slow,
Half the square don’t want to go!
Spanish words and Irish cheer,
Bachata brought the whole town near!
Dance till sunset, dance till night—
Dublin learned bachata right!
